Anchored by VERA SACRA’s signature cello textures and mesmeric percussive undercurrents, ‘when the world’s unkind’ unfolds as a meditation on the sanctuary love offers in the face of hostility. The final cut from her debut EP, the track serves as a connective thread, revisiting earlier themes of dislocation and transience. “I wanted to evoke the feeling of forgetting everything else when falling deep into someone’s comforting energy,” she explains, “I wrote it in a year where I felt very lost, constantly on the move.”On the track’s visualiser, VERA SACRA shares: “I wanted to create something dreamlike and ethereal, like stepping into another world, so I invited my friend Sonya Shpynova, a filmmaker from Ukraine, to create a video. Sonya and I have a shared love of analogue techniques and originally planned to film on analogue film, but due to constraints, we opted for a DV camera using tape and shot the video in my flat in South London.”Over the past two years she has developed a live show blending live-looped cello, electronics and delicate vocals. Known for her intimate yet powerful performances in spaces like The Old Church in Stoke Newington, she has shared stages with the likes of ddwy, Moreish Idols, Flora Yin Wong, and wing!, with upcoming bookings at No Bounds Festival and Float Along Festival in Sheffield. Revered for her captivating, often improvisational live performances, Marks approached the composition of sacred spring as an exercise in grounding - a way to translate the experience of constant movement into a spectral, sonic form.VERA SACRA explains the context of the EP: “I spent years moving between cities, countries, and identities — from studying Russian and Sociology in London, to living in the Baltics where I felt suspended in a strange, in-between space.
I feel so often that we are demanded to hold solid identities, clear senses of belonging and purpose. In ‘sacred spring’ I explore the challenges and beauty of liminality and the constant quest of finding a sense of home.”Since launching her project in 2024 and signing to EMI North Records label partner Launchpad+, her music has received radio support from Emily Pibleam and Christian Carlisle at BBC Introducing in Leeds and Sheffield, who selected her as a 'tip for 2025' - '‘There’s just something about this artist which has really grabbed my attention. I think they’re doing something really unique” - Emily PilbeamShe has also received radio play from Sian Eleri at Selector Radio and playlist support from Noctis Magazine, the Line of Best Fit and DMY Magazine.✵▪️✩✵▪️
